While Atchison County’s major employers are in the health care and education fields, our business-friendly environment has encouraged the growth of agriculture-related businesses, wind energy, and technology in recent years.

Wind energy has been a key industry in Atchison County over the last several years.  Atchison County currently hosts four wind farms producing 800MW of energy.

In addition to dozens of ag-related businesses like Advanced Pork Systems that have grown and thrived for years, Atchison County is also home to two of the largest grain elevators between Omaha, NE, and Kansas City, MO. Viterra (formerly Gavilon), west of I-29, is capable of handling a 130-car train and dumping trucks at 75,000 bph. Ag Partners’ new 3 million bushel facility is located in Tarkio and is able to unload a truck in 3 minutes.
